Is Jesus Credible?

Few figures in history have had the impact of Jesus of Nazareth. His life has influenced civilisations, shaped moral thinking and sparked ongoing debate for over two thousand years.

But familiarity is not the same as credibility.

Can the claims about Jesus actually be trusted?

Was He truly who He claimed to be? Can the accounts of His life be trusted? And is there sufficient historical and rational evidence to take His claims seriously? Did He truly fulfil ancient prophecies? Did He intend the mission later attributed to Him? Is there historical evidence for His execution - and was the resurrection an actual event or a later invention? And if the claims are true, what would that imply today?

These questions deserve more than assumptions or second-hand conclusions. They invite careful, honest investigation.

Skepticism is understandable. Extraordinary claims demand careful examination. Yet the story of Jesus is not presented in isolation - it is rooted in history, supported by early sources and connected to a broader story that invites investigation.

The goal here is not blind acceptance, but honest evaluation.

The Standard of Truth

As you explore these sections, apply the same standards you would use for any historical figure or event: consistency of sources, early testimony, corroboration and explanatory power.

If something is true, it should stand up to scrutiny.

Where to Start

If you're approaching this for the first time, a good path is:

  • Prophecies Fulfilled — do earlier texts meaningfully point to Jesus as the Messiah?
  • Why Jesus Came — what did Jesus Christ come for and did He fulfill His purpose?
  • Teachings of Jesus — are His teaching coherent and credible?
  • The Crucifixion — is Jesus' death historically accurate?
  • The Resurrection — does evidence from history do we have to validate Jesus' resurrection?
  • Is Jesus Alive? — if Jesus' claims are true what are the implications for us?
  • The Martyrs — how did the earliest witnesses of these events respond to the truth about Jesus?
